Guided by our 3 values of building relationships, customer success and passion and dedication, we are on a mission to make BCN the most trusted tech partner in the UK today. The kind of company clients want to work with, and people want to work for.
We are delighted you are on this journey with us!
Focus of the role:
We are looking for a Data Engineer who is passionate about building modern data platforms and helping organisations unlock the value of their data. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing and optimising data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Azure technologies, enabling our clients to make better decisions and drive meaningful business outcomes.
Working as part of BCN Group's Data & AI practice, you will be responsible for designing and delivering scalable, robust, and business-focused data engineering solutions across a variety of client projects. Combining strong technical expertise with a consultative approach, you will work closely with client stakeholders to understand their challenges, gather requirements, shape solution designs, and provide trusted guidance throughout the delivery lifecycle. You will utilise modern technologies including Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and Azure SQL, designing data architectures that support analytics, reporting, AI and machine learning initiatives.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team at the forefront of Microsoft's data platform ecosystem, helping to establish industry-leading data engineering practices while working with clients across a wide range of sectors.
Responsibilities:
You will take ownership of the design, development and delivery of data engineering solutions, working closely with clients, project teams and technical specialists to ensure successful project outcomes and deliver measurable business value.
The role will have a strong focus on designing and building modern ETL and ELT pipelines, implementing scalable data models and developing high-performing data platforms within Microsoft Fabric and Azure. You will be responsible for data ingestion, transformation and orchestration processes, ensuring solutions are reliable, secure, maintainable and aligned to client requirements.
You will collaborate closely with Power BI developers, AI specialists and wider delivery teams to create data platforms that support both analytical and operational business needs. This includes designing semantic models, implementing medallion architecture patterns, supporting data governance initiatives and ensuring solutions are optimised for performance and scalability.
As a client-facing consultant, you will work directly with stakeholders to understand business challenges, gather and refine requirements, and translate these into effective technical solutions. You will facilitate discovery activities, contribute to solution architecture and design decisions, participate in workshops, and provide trusted advice on data strategy, platform architecture, security, governance and DevOps best practices. You will be expected to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, helping clients make informed decisions and maximise the value of their data investments.
You will also contribute to pre-sales and solution-shaping activities, supporting proposals, providing technical input during customer discussions, and helping identify opportunities to extend and enhance client data capabilities.
Person, Skills & Experience:
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer who is comfortable working independently and within multidisciplinary project teams, with a strong foundation in modern cloud-based data platforms and a passion for delivering high-quality solutions for clients.
You will bring proven experience designing and implementing data engineering solutions using Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Azure, including developing data pipelines, data transformation processes and scalable analytical data models. Strong experience with ETL/ELT development, data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling methodologies and modern data architecture patterns is essential.
You will possess strong technical skills across T-SQL, Python and PySpark, with experience developing robust data processing solutions and optimising performance across databases, transformation workloads and data platforms. Experience with CI/CD practices, Azure DevOps and Git-based development workflows is also highly desirable.
Experience delivering solutions using Microsoft Fabric, including components such as Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory Pipelines, Dataflow Gen2 and Notebooks.
Experience working within deployment pipelines and modern DevOps processes would be advantageous.
You will also demonstrate a solid understanding of data quality, governance and security principles, including metadata management, lineage, role-based access control and data protection requirements.
Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, facilitate technical discussions with stakeholders and produce clear technical documentation.
We're particularly interested in individuals who enjoy solving complex problems, embrace emerging technologies, proactively contribute ideas and enjoy working in a collaborative environment where learning and knowledge sharing are highly valued.
